2024 BC Election Vote Splitting

How were the results of the election potentially impacted by vote splitting? I analyzed the numbers.

Notes:

• These results are based on Elections BC's complete final count data as of November 5, 2024 10:29 PST.
• I realize not all Green voters would vote for the NDP and not all independent/non-affiliated voters would vote for the Conservatives. However, in several cases even a small number of Green voters could have impacted the results in favour of the NDP. The same is true for independent/non-affiliated voters for the Conservatives.
• It is my belief that some Green voters would prefer an NDP candidate win rather than a Conservative, and that some independent/non-affiliated voters would prefer a Conservative candidate win.
• This is not a problem with the Green party or independent/non-affiliated candidates or voting for them. This is a problem with our FPTP voting system.
